A log lift is not another tonnage feature. It is a material-handling accessory for a specific problem: repeatedly getting heavy rounds to working height. That makes it one of the strongest workflow pages for separating force from ergonomics.
A hydraulic log lift changes material handling by raising a heavy round to working height. That is a different solution from vertical mode, which keeps the round near ground level, and from a log table/cradle, which supports material already at beam height.
The normalized production catalog currently verifies hydraulic-log-lift availability on three YARDMAX full-beam models. The site does not extend that compatibility to other machines merely because a third-party lift looks similar.

Lets the round stay near ground level while splitting. Reduces lifting but can add bending/repositioning.
Supports/stages rounds or split pieces at beam height; it does not lift a ground-level round by itself.
Helps keep pieces from falling away from the beam, reducing repeated pickup/repositioning.
For one oversized round, rolling a convertible splitter into vertical mode may be simpler. Over repeated large rounds, the cumulative lifting/bending can dominate the session. A lift can turn that recurring handling step into hydraulic movement and keep the splitter horizontal.
That does not automatically make it faster. The lift adds its own operating step, and loading/staging still matter. Use Productivity Calculator to account for handling time rather than assuming accessory use creates a fixed cords-per-hour gain.
A lift is most valuable when rounds arrive at the lift side in a repeatable way and split pieces have somewhere to go. If the operator still has to drag every round across the work area, rotate the machine repeatedly or step around piles of splits, the hydraulic lift may only move one bottleneck.
For higher-volume work, think in a sequence: staging → lift/load → split → support/re-split → clear/stack. A log table or catcher can complement the lift on a manufacturer-supported setup because it keeps material at working height after the lift has done its job.
A lift can add width, weight and protruding structure to a towable splitter. Confirm whether the accessory has a transport position, whether it affects hitch/tire clearance, and how the manufacturer expects it to be secured before moving the machine. Road-towability of the base splitter does not automatically establish road-towability with every accessory installed.
If rounds are consistently manageable by hand, a lift adds cost, weight and complexity without solving a recurring problem. Likewise, occasional oversized rounds may be handled adequately by vertical mode. Buy the handling accessory because it removes repeated work, not because it makes the machine look more commercial.

They solve the same lifting problem differently. Vertical mode keeps the round near ground level; a lift raises it to horizontal working height. Work volume and ergonomics decide.
Do not assume so. Frame mounting, hydraulic provisions, capacity, geometry and accessory combinations need exact manufacturer compatibility.
