Gas splitters are the main current path for remote operation, full-size horizontal/vertical machines and road-towable frames. The useful comparison is not gas versus electric in the abstract—it is whether mobility, round handling, cycle time and service requirements justify the engine-powered platform for your workload.
Gas splitters remove the outlet constraint and dominate the current full-size horizontal/vertical portion of the catalog. That makes them the main branch to evaluate for remote work, larger rounds and road-towable configurations.
The current catalog contains 29 gas-engine hydraulic records. They span compact horizontal machines through 40-ton horizontal/vertical units. The benefit is not simply “more power.” Gas also changes where the splitter can work, how it is transported, how much maintenance it requires and which engine/pump combinations are available.

Published gas cycle times vary widely. Current examples range from the 6.6-second FIRMAN GS2206 to 20-second compact Champion machines, so force alone is not a throughput measure.
Gas adds fuel storage, oil, engine service and seasonal storage considerations that corded electric machines largely avoid.
These current machines trade away vertical operation and road towing for a smaller footprint or lighter design. They can make sense when gas mobility matters but the rounds are still manageable at beam height.

Road towing is model-specific. Several current Champion, Oregon, YARDMAX, WEN and FIRMAN records publish road-towing capability, commonly with a 45 mph maximum where a speed is specified. Other models have no verified road-towing statement in the normalized record. Hitch size, tire/wheel configuration, local road rules and the manual all remain part of the decision.

A gas engine can add cost, noise and maintenance without solving a real problem if your work is occasional, stays close to suitable power and the rounds fit a compact horizontal machine. In that case, compare the electric models. If your real issue is heavy-round lifting, start with vertical operation rather than assuming the biggest gas tonnage is automatically the answer.

Not necessarily. Cycle time, pump flow, cylinder sizing and control behavior all affect repeated-work speed. Current models with lower advertised force can have faster published cycles than larger machines.
No. Road-towing capability and maximum speed must be explicitly published for the exact model. A wheeled frame alone does not establish road legality or safe towing.
